Veterans Day 40K Tournament Results

So this last Sunday I ran a 1,500 point tournament at my local store and something odd happened. A ton of people showed up!

This was our first 6th edition tournament at our store so it was going to be a learning experience for me with any odd rule questions and to see how my missions worked out.

*A wild Wargamer appears!*

I knew we would have a decent turn out for this event as I was told that people were coming from as far away as Bakersfield and maybe even Victor Valley. So I was planning on 10-12 people for the tournament and we would have been able to get everyone a spot and be comfortable. Well that didn't happen. We ended up having 17 people turn out for the event!

In order to make it work we had to cut 4 6'x4' tables into 6 4'x4' tables and have the "top" 2 tables be 6'x4'. In the end it was not ideal but it worked out.

What I did for the missions was I paired up the book missions so that they were playing 2 book missions at a time with the standard secondary objectives as well. This is similar to what the Frontline Gaming is going to be doing for their tournament. The difference is that as they will be giving 4 points for the primary mission, 3 for the secondary mission and 1 point each for the Tertiary objectives, I tried to balance out all the points per mission by adjusting how many VP each objective per mission were worth. I also worked a bit of narrative into the missions.

Mission 1: Land Grab

Deployment: Dawn of War

Primary Objective: The Scouring (6 objectives 2x 1VP, 2x 2VP, 2x 3VP)
Secondary Objective: The Big Guns Never Tire (d3+2 objectives, 2 VP Each)
Tertiary Objective: Slay the Warlord, First Blood, Line Breakers, Heavy Support Unit Destroyed, Fast Attack Unit Destroyed (1 VP Each)

Special Rules: Reserves, Night Fight, Heavy Metal (pg.128), Fast Recon (pg. 129)

Game Length: Random

This mission represented the initial landing of the players forces going out to grab anything of use that could be found planet side. With a large number of objectives this in this mission (9-11) it was useful that Heavy Support and Fast Attack units were also scoring, but also worth 1VP if killed.

Mission 2: Hold Your Ground!

Deployment Vanguard Strike

Primary Objective: The Emperors Will (2 objectives, 5 VP Each)
Secondary Objective: Crusader (d3+2 objectives, 3 VP Each)
Tertiary Objective: Slay the Warlord, First Blood, Line Breakers (1 VP Each)

Special Rules: Reserves, Night Fight, Heavy Metal (pg.128), Fast Recon (pg. 129)

Game Length: Random

This mission was to show that you now have an established base (The Emperors Will) that you want to protect while trying to destroy your opponents. As well as that you have been able to locate some more useful items that would benefit in your campaign. As there are less objectives there is no need for additional scoring units.

Mission 3: The Final Conflict

Deployment: Dawn of War

Primary Objective: The Relic (1 objective, 5 VP)
Secondary Objective: Purge the Alien (2 VP Each)
Tertiary Objective: Slay the Warlord, First Blood, Line Breakers (1 VP Each)

Special Rules: Reserves, Night Fight

Game Length: Random

This mission was about obtaining the final piece needed to make a weapon that would secure victory for your side in the campaign. If you were unable to obtain the relic you better make the enemy pay for it in blood!

For all the missions the winner was determined by their total number of Victory Points.

Our top 5 were
1. Tzeentch Daemons
2. Tzeentch Daemons
3. IG w/ Ork Allies
4. Chaos Marines (World Eaters)
5. Necrons

We did have 2 CronAir style lists in the tournament, the first one tied for 7th and the second tied for 12th.

And Till Next Time! Happy Wargaming!
